With iOS 18.1 due for release in the coming weeks with an initial set of Apple Intelligence features, let’s take a look ahead to December, where Apple have announced what new features will be coming in iOS 18.2.

Below, I have outlined a select few features that will be most helpful to businesses. There will be more features than included below, and I will give a full rundown of confirmed features closer to release.

ChatGPT Support in Siri

CEO Tim Cook, in a recent earnings call, commented on the staggered release of Apple Intelligence features. While talking about the rollout, he mentioned that ChatGPT integration will arrive “by the end of the calendar year”

Apple is also reportedly investing in OpenAI’s next funding round, showing their confidence in the companies technology.

Apple Intelligence Localisation Expansion

At the iPhone 16 keynote, Apple announced that Apple Intelligence will be localised for additional English-speaking countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK.

Currently, US English is the only supported localisation, although users outside the United States can set their Siri language to US English to enable Apple Intelligence on their devices.

Genmoji & Image Playground

Back at WWDC in June, we got to see a preview of Apple’s image generation features. There haven’t yet been any concrete leaks or confirmations from Apple as to a shipping date for this feature yet, but it is likely to be shipped this year as part of iOS 18.2.

With this feature, users will be able to generate their own AI images on-device and even generate new emoji.

Redesigned Mail App

The announced redesign of the Mail app from WWDC is also expected to ship this year. There have been no updates as yet in the iOS 18.1 beta, so we can expect this to ship with iOS 18.2 in December.

New features to Mail include a fresh design, AI summaries, and automatic categorisation of emails.

Apple Intelligence on iOS 18 will only be supported on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models.

Apple Intelligence will also be available on supported iPad and Mac devices running iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia.
